Ingredient Spotlight - Panax Ginseng

Panax Ginseng is an adaptogenic herb that has been used in Chinese medicine and herbal medicine for centuries. Panax Ginseng grows in Korea, northeastern China, and far eastern Siberia.

Like all adaptogens, Panax Ginseng functions as a mild stress-mimetic, which activates the adaptive stress-response signalling pathways to cope with severe stress. (1) Panax Ginseng helps regulates the response to the hormonal changes caused due to stress, thus maintaining homeostasis more effectively.

Panax ginseng contains many active substances including ginsenosides or panaxosides. Modern pharmacological experiments have shown that ginsenosides have many biological activities. For example, ginsenosides have good effects in anticancer, anti-inflammation, antioxidation, antiaging, antifatigue, and physiological functions. (2)

We have carefully chosen to include Panax Ginseng in Adapt Relax because in addition to its benefits for stress, it has also shown to be effective for helping fight fatigue. Various studies have linked key components in ginseng, like polysaccharides and oligopeptides, with lower oxidative stress and higher energy production in cells, which could help fight fatigue.

In one study those given Panax ginseng experienced less physical and mental fatigue, as well as reductions in oxidative stress, than those taking the placebo. A review of over 155 studies suggested that ginseng supplements may not only help reduce fatigue but also enhance physical activity.(3)
