IWD events to attend 2023
International Women's Day is approaching soon - Wednesday, March 8. Held annually International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.
This year’s theme is Embrace Equity and to enhance understanding as to why Equal opportunities aren't enough. International Women’s Day 2023 wants people to understand the difference between equality and equity. Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities. Equity recognises that each person has different circumstances, and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.
The International Women’s Day website has this great explainer on equity:
Equity can be defined as giving everyone what they need to be successful. In other words, it's not giving everyone the exact same thing. If we give everyone the exact same thing, expecting that will make people equal, it assumes that everyone started out in the same place - and this can be vastly inaccurate because everyone isn't the same.
To celebrate International Women’s Day this year there are many amazing events you can get involved with. Below are listed some excellent events in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane For events in other locations click here and simply change the location to your desired city or you can search the International Women's Day website here.
